What to do with unwanted beauty products
Makeup, skincare and perfume you don't use: a simple way to sort them and every realistic option, from returning and gifting to swapping, donating and recycling.

Short answer
Sort them first: sealed and in date, opened, and expired. Sealed products can be returned (if the store allows), given away, donated where sealed toiletries are accepted, or swapped for products you will use. Opened makeup and skincare should be used up or disposed of, not passed on. Expired products go in the trash or recycling, following your local rules.

Questions
Can I donate opened makeup?
Generally no. Most organizations accept only new, sealed products, and opened makeup can carry bacteria. Use it up or dispose of it.
Can I sell unused beauty products?
You can, on resale marketplaces, but you'll need to set a price, answer buyers and pay selling fees. Swapping skips the money: you trade the products you don't use for ones you want.
How do I know if a sealed product is still good?
Look for an expiry or best-before date on the box or the container, and check the batch code. If there's no date and you've had it for years, be cautious.
