What to do with unwanted beauty gifts

A gift set in the wrong scent, a shade that isn't yours, a skincare kit you'll never use: kind and practical ways to exchange, regift, donate or swap beauty gifts.

Two hands passing a perfume over a SwapMyBeauty box

Short answer

Keep it sealed. Ask for a gift receipt and exchange it if you can; otherwise regift it to someone it suits, donate it where sealed toiletries are accepted, or swap it on SwapMyBeauty for something you'll actually use. Opened gifts can't be passed on safely, except perfume in the Second Love Club rules.

Questions

Is it rude to regift a beauty product?

Not if it's sealed, in date and chosen for someone who will enjoy it. Avoid regifting to the same group of friends.

Can I swap a gift set?

Yes, if it's complete and sealed. On SwapMyBeauty gift sets are a category of their own.

What if I opened the gift already?

Opened makeup and skincare can't be passed on safely. Perfume with most of the bottle left can be swapped in the Second Love Club in NY, NJ and CT under its rules.
